: : 3 Year Plan, 2006 - 2009 : :

What will our next 3 years look like?

Rod's two cents!
If I was asked to comment on the future of youth ministry at South Perth this is what I would say:

The future of South Perth Youth looks very exciting because we have 4 generations of youth leaders serving in our ministry, some leaders who have led youth who are now leaders themselves 4 times over! It looks exciting because we have an army of young people who love God and who are committed to their mates. It's exciting because of where the church is heading! It's exciting because God is very clearly calling us to make a difference in our community, our city and our cosmos. It's exciting because I totally believe 'that the best is yet to come'.

I was again reminded of this verse:
2 Chron 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
I'm convinced that as we continue to grow in our commitment to Jesus, God will provide the strength needed so that we can be all that He intends us to be.

My hope is that you will fully commit yourself to Jesus in a way you never have before and be a part of what God is doing in us and through us, the Church. If the Church (us) is the "Hope of the World" let's live in that God given destiny by serving and loving every young person in our reach!

A Big thank you to everyone who helped put together this plan my devoted staff, our fantastic youth leaders, the best in the world (my world anyway!), our youth your faith and energy inspires me lots and our families. Thanks for your ongoing support and encouragement. You need to know that we need YOU. Thank you Church!

Our Vision (What we want to be!)
A Christ Centred Community
Alive to Reconciling People to Christ

Our Mission (How we get there!)
Surrendering to Christ,
Sharing Christ through our Lives

Our Values
Refer to Church's Values

Our Strategy
1. DISCIPLESHIP and
2. MISSION

Key DISCIPLESHIP focuses for 06-09
South Perth Youth

Family Based Youth Ministry
This is an area that God has slowly been encouraging us to further explore in our youth ministry. What it looks like, we are still not 100% sure. What we do know is that we want to more and more involve the whole family in what we are doing. So we will be encouraging parents and families to get involved, come to camps and connect with broader ministry areas in the life of the church.

Youth Prayer

As a youth ministry we need to pray so prayer will be offered at the beginning of each youth event in addition to specific times of prayer and fasting. We will also continue to call the local youth pastors, leaders, chaplains and youth supporters to pray once a month on a Friday Morning. [South City Youth Prayer]

Youth Church and Smalls (FRIDAY NIGHT)
After much discussion and process we have felt that as of the start of term one 2006 we would like to move what we do on a Tuesday night to Friday nights (6.55pm-9.30pm). We are well aware that this may not suit everyone but it's our hope that this won't unsettle to many people. We hope that the shift will allow us more time to do it more effectively, make it more accessible for all our students and their families, take the pressure off having to entertain youth on a Friday night as well to give them more space to be together and grow in their journey's with Jesus. We will do social things from time to time and will definitely attend the Youth Alive events. We also look forward to introducing a missional edge to our Friday nights by serving the community in our Life Groups

Youth Worship & Creative Arts
It is our prayer and desire to continue to develop our youth and young adult worship on Friday nights and Sundays. However, we are also pretty committed to bringing all of the ages together in praise and worship especially in our family celebration mornings.
We are trusting that God will continue to raise up, release and empower youth and young adults to be worship leaders, vocalists, musicians, composers, audio visual, creative arts and ministers using their gifts to bring glory to Jesus. As of 2006 we will be releasing and setting a part Damien Bailey as our youth worship coordinator.

LifeStreams Journals
As a church we are committed to reading God's Word and we will be encouraging our youth and leaders to use the LifeStreams journals which incorporate daily readings.

LifeStre@ms7 / Sund@y7 (Sunday Evening?)
Please see other written material regarding the changes here! (At the Info Desk and in our Community Contact)

Leadership Development
We will be working hard to identify and equip key emerging leaders. We plan to do that through mentoring, internships, retreats, LifeStreams discipleship and conferences including Hillsong, Planetshakers and maybe a leadership conference of our own.

Junior High Church (Sunday AM)
We will continue to provide age specific teaching during the two AM services for students who are in Yrs 8 -10. We will continue to stay in with the Church family, to enjoy praise and worship and then leave together after the community spot.

Camps and Retreats
Camping and retreats will continue to be an integral part of our programming into the future.

Intentional Connection with Kids Min and Young Adults

We will celebrate and support the transition of young people from kids min to youth and youth to young adults

South Perth Young Adults
Our Young Adults ministry consists of the following:

  • Life Groups
  • Social Events
  • AM Church, LifeStre@ms7, Sund@7
  • Mission (Possibly in the University)

We are seeking to find someone who is passionate about this age group, and is willing to take our young adult ministry to the next level.

Key MISSIONAL focuses for 06-09
South Perth (LifeStreams) Youth Services

Broader involvement in the local schools
We want to serve our local High Schools in ways that enhance the community. These are some possibilities: assisting on Camps, helping facilitate the Peer Support and Peer Skills programs in schools, as well as student mentoring (HOPE & Shine, two mentoring programs). We will also continue to assist at Drug Awareness Week, Exo Day and our regular lunch time activities at Como Secondary College.

Community Based Youth Groups (EVP)
It is our desire to see the East Victoria Park youth group continue to develop and flourish under the leadership of Alisha Faulkner and her team of very committed leaders. Alisha will be concluding her ministry as kid's intern and joining the youth staff as Minister Youth Community (EVP). This move is a partnership move with children's ministry which incorporates both children's and youth ministry outreach strategies.
As of 2006 the youth group will relocate to Kent St Senior High School and will be open to students from both schools (yrs 6-9). We are pretty excited about this move and look forward to what God is going to do in and through this team.

YouthCARE (Como, Kent St, Applecross and Penrhos)
It's our desire to continue to invest in the Chaplains from our local area. I'm currently the Chairman of the Como Chaplaincy team and we also have Sarah James attending the Kent St Chaplaincy team meetings. Our immediate role is to continue financially and prayerfully supporting our existing Chaplains Phil Smoker (Como), Terry Dwyer (Kent St), as well as Elisabeth Roberts (Applecross) and Karen Brooks (Penrhos) who are very much a part of our focus.
We are currently exploring the possibility of appointing a Chaplain in a local primary school next year. As well as continuing to support any ministry that may happen in these schools.
We have also started preliminary work with the Kent St Chaplaincy to hopefully establish a Chaplain at the East Victoria Park Primary School by 2007.

Outreach Opportunities
In 2006 we will be involved in the Youth Vision State Youth Games, Junior State Youth Games and Youth Rally's hosted by South City and Youth Alive.

Mission Trips (C2C Youth)
We will continue to offer trips that reach beyond our local setting including, India, Coral Bay and Kununurra. We will also support and champion individual callings. We hope to develop a closer relationship with C2C and be more intentional about developing our partnership.

Key MISSIONAL Dreams for 06-09

Continue to Partner with City of South Perth
We are currently in discussion with the City about the possibility of developing Holiday Programs and after School Youth Clubs for our community. We will also be regularly attending the bimonthly SPARKYS Network which brings together youth services in the City of South Perth and the Town of Victoria Park.

Community Transformation
We feel very strongly that God has called us to practically assist the community in anything that it may need. For example, renovating houses, doing yard cleanups and any other service with no strings attached! Our Youth LifeGroups will be doing a missional project at least twice a year.

Finish Multi Purpose Building
We trust that this building will be commenced and finished in 2006. We believe that it will facilitate ministry to young people in our community!

BIG DREAM (Purpose Designed Youth Space)
A Consultancy has identified that within our community (Vic Park and South Perth) there is not much youth space! So our dream is to one day have a purpose built facility that provides space for youth and youth support services all under the same roof.

Where to from here?

In order to achieve this plan we believe we need the following:

  • Roles to be filled.
    • Administrative Assistance (Marketing and Technology)
    • Young Adults Coordinator / Pastor
    • Youth Worship Teams
    • SPY Services Coordinator (Facilitating Holiday Programs and After School Groups)
    • Kent St/EVP Leaders
    • Youth Smalls Coordinator
    • Youth Smalls Leaders
    • Youth Missions C2C Representative
    • Interns / DTS students?
    • Primary School Chaplains (EVP / Local Primary School)
  • Multi Purpose Hall to be completed by the end of 2006.

Please pray about your involvement in 2006! In order for these things to become a reality we need devoted followers of Jesus to join the team and play a part in what God wants to do in us and through us. Is there an area of youth ministry that God is calling you too? If you want to chat about any of this please feel free to talk or email one of the youth staff.
